Grand SANTON provençal woman, signed S PEIRANO Provence France
This French Santon, signed S PEIRANO represents an old Provencal lady.
She holds in her hands a spindle and a cattail with white wool.
The santon was made of terracotta and wire (for the arms). The woman wears a pretty skirt in Provençal floral fabric with an apron on top, a shawl, a lace headdress.
made by Jean-Louis Peirano, located in Aubagne in the south of France, he created dressed santons that were distinguished by a great wealth of details, expression and costumes. The company ceased operations in 2014
Traditional Provencal figurines, santons are made of clay (sometimes with metal thread parts), painted by hand and used in Christmas crib decorations.
