2 vintage Avon opaline white BOTTLES, empty perfume bottle

Set of 2 adorable bottles from the AVON brand. The dog, a Scottish terrier, is in white opaline with a hard plastic head. For the telephone bottle, the telephone handset and the cream-colored plastic dial are removable and serve as a cover for the cap. The body is beautifully decorated molded glass. Now empty, it originally contained Eau de Cologne “Élégance”.

In 1886, David H. McConnell founded the California Perfume Company, which later became Avon, in New York. As an unsuccessful book salesman, he had concocted a rose perfume as a "free gift" to encourage people to buy his books. The perfume was so popular that McConnell decided to give up the book business and start a perfume company. The company changed its name to Avon in 1939 in honor of Shakespeare's hometown of Stratford-on-Avon.
